What this quote means is that  the future is in our hands. For example if you choose to start your life by being a liar and cheater and most of all always choosing the wrong  that will stay with you forever. if you did right in the past everyone in the future would say he was a good man and they want to be like you.It is on us if we choose good or if we choose bad. All of our choices have consequences that can be both good and bad, it's whatever we make them.
